    American Made Christmas 09
Is it to early to start thinking about Christmas 09?

Not if you are going to attempt to purchase nothing but American made gifts.

Anything made in America is such a rarity anymore that you almost have to "happen up" on one here and there. It's not like you can just run to walmart on Christmas eve and purchase nothing but American made products.

So I suppose this will rule out pretty much all of the major department stores. Nobody will get shoes or sweaters next year. And my daughter may have to accept items that may not be "in".

The idea occurred to me when I was looking over the gifts I got, trying to assemble them and see how they work. I couldn't help but notice everything was made in China. And I don't mean that sarcasticly, I mean EVERYTHING. It occurred to me that I bet China is a very large supporter of Christmas.

So there will be no CD players headphones, plasma TV's and the like. Not that I ever considered buying one of those overpriced things for a Christmas gift anyway. No kitchen appliances, nothing electrical, nothing that contains any kind of circuitry, as the last electronic that rolled down a US assembly line had vacuum tubes in it.

Are there any made in America items that you all can think of?

I myself will probably get most of my stuff from the farmers market when it comes back in Spring. All of that stuff is made locally. Normally crafty things.

Homemade items are not out of the question either. I will count a homemade bookshelf as American made, even if the hinges, nails, screws, paint, etc were made in China. I mean, I can built a shelf, I can't forge my own nails.
