My dog is pooping in other peoples homes
Hi have a 10 month old HavaneseXzu puppy that has been completely house broken since he was about 3 months old. Recently he has started pooping indoors, but never at my house. It started with pooping in the morning when he went to training class at the local pet store, even though he'd gone about 2 hours earlier. Now he has started pooping at every house that we go to visit whether they have pets there. I'm quite confused by this problem and also embarrassed by it. No matter where we go with Milo he always has plently of opportunities to go outside and he never seems to pee indoors, just poop. I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this problem or if anyone has a solution to it. Thanks!

Is he getting overly excited or anxious at these places? My dog always poops when anxious, regardless of when she last pooped. I had a few of those embarrassing moments when she was younger, I know how horrifying it can be! I also found she didn't know how to signal her need to go outside when we weren't at home. If your pup won't go before going in, try to take him out within 10 minutes of arrival, regardless of whether he seems to "need" to. The good news is my dog outgrew it. :)

In addition, do you "free feed"? As in leaving the bowl out with food at all times? This pup should only be eating twice daily, at designated times-AM & PM. Never leave food out-free food equals LOTS of poop. At my clinic, EVERYONE poops when they get there! Nerves, anxiety, excitement... Make sure his diet is of good quality, wean him off puppy formula if he is still on. You might try holding him and not letting him down upon going to a new place until he calms or, the simplest thing, carry him in a soft crate when you go places!

My pup gets fed Mountain Dog Food Raw mix twice a day and gets the odd treats during the day. The pooping in other peoples homes usually happens 1-2 hours after we get there after having been outside a couple times and having had a chance to look around and say hi to everyone. It's a perplexing problem, but I guess I might just have to wait for him to outgrow the problem.
