    Family Dilemma
    I have a severe disability.

Upon discharge from hospital 23 years ago, and having been offered accommodation in an adjacent bungalow to my father, I took up residence in 1986.

In 1991, I found myself able to contribute some rent to my father [I am responsible for all bills relating to the bungalow]. I have paid this at a nominal rate of £160 per calendar month. My father demanded this in cash. I have no reciepts. I have no agreement. I have spent money on improvements and rectifying faults during that period.

At the time I started paying, he said he would sign the bungalow over to me at age 40. He said if I subsequently wanted to move, that I should give him the opportunity to buy it back. I have lived here on the understanding that this was an agreement [or trust arrangement].

Suffice to say, he has now requested that I leave and seek alternative accommodation.

    Do I have any rights?

Has there been a breach of trust?

Is there an 'estopple' issue in this case?

Have I been effectively bullied or financially abused?

    Please, please help:confused:

I think the first thing you should do is sit down and talk to him. Explain your situation and why you are upset and let him give his opinion and listen without fighting. Your main question would surely be "Why are you doing this?". Did you fall out with him over something because I doubt a father would kick his disabled son out of the house for no reason. You at least deserve an explanation.

Has there been a breach of trust? Yes, between you and your father.

As far as the legal side goes, you need to speak to a specialist but if you did not have a written agreement you may struggle. Again, you need legal advice if you are going to take it that far.
