Pregnancy after vasectomy?
My husband recently had a vasectomy. We are going for the follow-up test as soon as appropriate. I thought I could go off the pill as soon as he tests negative but I've heard quite a few stories about women getting pregnant after their husbands vasectomy!
Can anyone give me advice on how to proceed without getting pregnant?
Thank you for your time.

Ideally he will have at least a couple of samples checked over a period before being given the all clear. Until then, use addition protection to be on the safe side. Rarely, but it does happen, pregnancy may occur later on if the vasectomy fails to be permanent. Odds will depend on how the procedure was performed. The vast majority of couples, however, can consider it permanent.

What about a sperm cyst? Have you heard of it? Can you check for them?

Yes, I guess so. My friend got pregnant (after a successful vasectomy) when (according to doctor after re-examining husband) a "sperm cyst" burst at her fertile time of the month. The doctor said he could see the scar tissue left behind by the cyst. I've never heard of this before!

Here is some info on what you are asking about... Spermatocele (Epididymal Cyst)-Topic Overview
Now, it takes about 12 ejaculations to be clear of semen. However, again, no form of birth control is 100% effective aside from a total abdominal hysterectomy or abstinence. Vasectomies and Tubal Ligations have the lowest risk factors though.

Get tested? After approximately 12 ejaculations he should be clear of sperm.

Oopsies still happen occasionally post vasectomy... it's purely anecdotal, but my 13 year old sister was conceived 5 months post vasectomy.

My husband had a vasectomy in 2003. Are there ways to get pregnant (with my husband's sperm) after a vasectomy WITHOUT going through the reversal process? What I mean is is there a way to extract sperm, albeit weak, from a man to be implanted into a woman? Or, is the vasectomy reversal required?
