    Remote Desktop Connection
How do I connect to my server remotely? I am able to do it inside our office building by simply typing in the IP address and I am immediately connected to the server. But when I go home and try, I get the error message that the computer cannot be found. This same configuration used to work from home just fine, but something has changed. The server is running Server 2003 and the office computer that works is XP Pro and the two I have tried from home are running XP Home and the other XP Media. Both the Home version and Media version used to connect to the server no problem, but not now. The internet connections work fine elsewhere also. I went to the dos prompt and got the other IP address from ipconfig and tried them all to no avail. Please help. Thanks

Are you planning on using any type of program such as RealVNC or TightVNC. If not check out this guide:

Windows XP: Get Started Using Remote Desktop

This would have to be done on both computers.

First of all, how are you making a connection to the server in your office? The Remote Desktop Connection does not handle the routing for you. You must have a way to connect to the server. This is typically done with Virtual Private Networking.

Is the server a true Terminal Server or is an administrative RDP session? If it is a true Terminal Server, then applications can be published for access and then be made accessible to the Internet but this is probably far beyond what you are trying to do.

Note: XP Home can be used as the RDP Client but can not be an RDP Host. Only XP Pro can be an RDP Host. Windows 2003 Server will support up to two administrative RDP sessions.
