I have hardwood floors that are cold in winter should I insulate between the joist (the ceiling in the basement/ floor on first level) to help keep the floors warm?

Typically, hard floors are cooler in the winter months than a carpeted floor would be.

If it's really a big issue for you and you wanted to go through the expense and time of insulating, then that certainly is an option.

Just remember when insulating (if you're using the paper-backed insulation) to hang the insulation so that the paper is FACING

Just remember when insulating (if you're using the paper-backed insulation) to hang the insulation so that the paper is FACING the room that you are wanting to insulate.

In your case, that means that you would staple the paper directly to the floor between the joists. That means that the fiberglass insulation would be exposed in the ceiling of your basement.

    Wishing you the best.
