I need help in writing a sponsorship letter to several community businesses to help support our nonprofit dance and drum organization travel to the Upcoming presidential inauguration. We are the only group in our city invited to perform at the inauguration in Washington DC. We need monetary donations for travel expenses.

You've already given some key elements in your post above that you might want to include in a letter. I.e. "help support our nonprofit dance and drum organization", "only group in our city invited to perform at the inauguration" and "We need monetary donations for travel expenses".

One idea that I have is that if your going to address this letter to businesses, is that you first find out the name of the owner of any specific business and address the letter to them personally rather than using something like "Dear Sir", "To Whom It May Concern" or "Dear Sir or Madam".
