Hiya I have dyed my hair loads over the last few years. Now it's a dark brown (prev black-faded out a bit) wit blondish flashes. I want to go blonde, but I don't want to bleach it straight off or dye it because everyone I know who have done it have gone a gingery yellowy orange. I really don't want that. What shall I do. Hun, if you are trying to go from dark to blonde, then you will need to use hair bleach to get the result you want. It's better known as a double process. Anything other than that may result in a brassy or red/orange tones. It requires of a separate bleaching process and a color toner application to achieve the desired results.

Oh right. Is it the pre-lightener? If I do use the pre-lightener will it go a bit of a red ginger colour? Sorry to ask so much but I just don't want to mess up my hair completely. Thanks for everything

If you want to go from dark to blonde, a double process is required. When hair is bleached it goes through different stages of lightening. It goes from dark black, to dark reddish brown, to medium reddish brown, to reddish brown, to light orange red, to gold orange, to gold, to light gold, to yellow, to pale yellow blond, to palest yellow blond. Since you want to go blonde, your hair has to bleached to a yellow stage, then a toner is used to give you your desired color. Double Process (bleaching and toning) should never be attempted at home. This process should be done by a professional hairstylist.
