5 weeks pregnant could I be further along
Ive just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant, confirmed with my doctor.

My last menstrual cycle did only last 2-3 day and was very light compared to previous months.

Could this mean I am slightly further along than predicted. I'm not due to see midwife for another 6-8 weeks.

Be great if somebody could shed some light??

Hope to hear from somebody soon

If your last period was 10/30/08, you most likely conceived on or around November 13 and your due date would be August 4. Which means, as of today, December 10,you would be 6 weeks and 2 days.

The length and severity of the period does not really come into count. We begin counting from the first day that you bled, which was October 30.

If your cycles are about 4 weeks, then you are probably either 4 weeks along or 8 weeks along. Doctors count from your last period, rather than the date of conception, so the doctor would tell you "6 weeks" or "10 weeks." (The extra two weeks are from the beginning of your last period until you conceived on around November 13.) Docs say this is "easier to count." I don't know why!

If your doctor is correct, then you are only about 4 weeks pregnant (counting from conception). If you are correct in thinking you may have conceived the previous month, then you'd be about 8 weeks along. (Or 6 and 10, as an MD would say.)

When you are further along, doctors can estimate pretty well based on the size of the baby by measuring your belly, but at this stage, I think it would be harder to tell. What symptoms do you have? When I was pregnant, I didn't have too many obvious symptoms at 4 weeks, whereas at 8, I would have had morning sickness, enlarged breasts, and slight weight gain, as well as sleepiness.

On the other hand, on my first pregnancy, my father told me he guessed I was pregnant, at 3 weeks, before I knew myself. :)

I made a mistake when I wrote 3 and 7. Hadn't had my coffee, so I just corrected this.

Could be eight! It'll be more obvious in time which it is. If so your doctor will readjust the estimate. Presumably, s/he was just going by your last period, as J-9 did. This is the correct thing to do.
