    Toe infection
    Hello,

I don't know if this is the right sub-category, my apoligies if it is not. Around 3 weeks ago I started to notice my toe was red and slightly green to the side of the nail so I went to the doctors and got some antibiotics. I was given enough tablets for 1 week after the week of treatment my toe was slightly better, the green bit went but the toe seemed to be more red than before and slightly swollen so I had another trip to the doctors who gave me more antobiotics (but a different type or something like that) I'm not sure if they are working. My toe is still swollen and really red and today I noticed this clear liquid seemed to be coming out - what could that be? Also how long should it take for an infection to go away?

    Thank you

The feet have poor circulation in general, so it will take longer to heal. Taking two different courses of anti-biotics is not unheard of. Usually, the doc may start one course and when the infection subsides somewhat, would lance or drain the area and then finish with another course of antibiotics.

If you ever burnt yourself to the point of creating a blister you would have noticed the clear liquid.

Topical Neosporin should help a little if your not alergic to it. Bathing your foot in cool water and Epsom salt (3-4x per day) will also help.

You might consider seeing an orthopeadic doctor.

Would one of the antibiotics be Kelflex?

I think that the antibiotic is keflex, yes.
