Neg home pregnancy tests but have all the symptoms. Does anyone have any info?
Hi, new here so bare with me, my story is a bit complicated! My husband and I have been Trying to conceive since Sept. I got pregnant right away but had an early miscarriage at 4.5wks. My dr said to wait one cycle since my hCG was down to 5 and nothing more was to be done. I got my period 6wks later, it was normal. So 2wks later when I was ovulating (pretty sure but didn't use a kit or anything to verify) we tried to conceive again. One week later I had faint pink spotting that lasted a few hrs, started having tingling in my breasts and nipples, they both started to enlarge and now my breasts have increased 1 cup size so far (now 5.5wks after LMP). I have had many other pregnancy symptoms, nausea w/o vomiting, food aversions, light pink spotting after intercourse and engorgement of genitals, "varicose veins" in vulva, fatigue, frequent urination, bloating, tightness and pressure in my uterus, and absentminded. I took 4 pregnancy tests, a few early, and the last a week after my period was due. All were negative! I feel like I could be pregnant but doubtful at the same time because of the test results. I had some light spotting 1.5wks after ovulation after intercourse, then I bled for 1.5days not heavy or light, which was a day before I was due to have my period, then all of a sudden it stopped on the day I was to start my period. I have normal peroids lasting 3-5 days and never irregular, so this is new for me.

Does anyone have any advice? I go to my OB/GYN in a few days to discuss things but I'm going crazy waiting over here so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Frustrating not knowing, but you'll have to wait until you see your doctor. An internal exam will possibly help them to determine if you are pregnant or not, but of course they will also do a pregnancy test. Since you have had negative results on the urine test, (it can take awhile before a positive shows up on them for some women), they may decide to just jump right to a blood test... hopefully a quantitative one which will give you an actual level of hcg and not just a positive or negative. If you can't stand the wait, you could always try another test or two at home before you have your appointment and see if a positive shows up.
    Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you for your thoughts! I think I might try another pregnancy test. I haven't had any problems in the past getting results (I currently have a 2yr old) but since I had complications a few months ago maybe my hormones aren't responding like they should, that and I have seen so many woman talking about not getting a positive until they were 6wks pregnant! Thanks again! I'll definitely ask my dr what blood tests he's going to run. I know he will want to check all kinds of things with my prev issues.

I don't know if this will help you or not but one of my co-workers is six months pregnant and even now if she takes a pregnancy test it comes up negative she just doesn't produce a lot of the pregnancy hormone so the test can not tell she's pregnant even though you look at her and you can tell she is! Don't know if that helped but good luck!

Wow that is very interesting. Thanks for the info I'll keep that in mind.

Just an update: I've been having some more pressure in the area of my c-section scar and expanding waistline was a bit more noticeable this morning. I am thinking more and more that I am pregnant and just miscalculated or my hormones aren't picking up on the HPT's. Whatever it is I should find out Wedneday morning at my appt and I've just chose to wait it out and see what my dr says. As much as I'd like to know now I don't feel like spending more money on more HPT's when I will be paying a copay for test at my dr's office so what's the point. But thank you guys for your replies, they did help put my mind at ease as much as possible under the circumstances

I really wish I could give you a definite answer. If I could, id make a million bucks a day.

No self respecting physician will declare you pregnant or not without "proof"... which means a confirmed test... home or blood, with a blood test being more sensitive.

Changes in breast size, problems with appetite... it just doesn't cut it.

It doesn't mean you are not pregnant... when in doubt, always act as if you might be. Take a good prenatal multi, for ex.

But honestly... every med student that ever went through the program misdiagnosed him or herself over and over and over.

So... like it or not... until the hormones are detected, its just a guessing game.

The fact that the tests are coming out negative is actually more common then you would think. Also if you took the test at all while you were bleeding even just a little the test is more likely to come out negative because the it alters your hormones. Good Luck I hope you are!!

I know you posted that you are just going to wait until you have your appt... just forgot to mention before that if you do decide to take another HPT make sure you are taking it first thing in the morning, when hormone levels would be most concentrated. You might be doing this anyway, but some people don't realize that first thing when you wake is the best time to take it.

Another update... I am NOT pregnant. I have 2 cysts on my right ovary, will be taking prometrium to bring on what I've been told could be one big period and that should regulate me again... hopefully that is. Had some bldwrk for thyroid and prolactin done will get results fri or mon to see if there is an underlying cause. Not too disappointed about not being pregnant atm, just want my body to get on track 1st then we may try again, no rush. Hubby and I decided around Thanksgiving to wait a little while anyway so this works out for the best. I have some info for anyone else out there who might have the same thing going on or anything else, when in doubt don't waste your money on HPT's just go to your dr and put your mind at ease its way better trust me! Thanks everyone again for your thoughts/concerns... I will leave another update after I get the results to my bldwrk and see what happens with the meds, should get my period within 5-17 days after starting meds depending on how my body responds! And if I don't get one then its back to my dr but lets hope that doesn't happen right and it comes like its supposed to!!

Well I did end up getting my period xmas eve morning! (That was the day it was due to start anyway.) I got all my bldwrk results back, everything was fine, no underlying cause according to those tests. I had a normal period and now a month later I am due to start today, but it has not shown up yet... I usually start every 28 days (seems to always be on a Wednesday) and I start usually first thing in the morning! I do not know what is going on with me? PCOS maybe?? Hubby and I have tried to stay abstinent around the time I'd be ovulating since we are waiting a few months until my body gets regulated again, I don't know if I ovulated this month or not, normally I can tell... I am getting frustrated with all the women issues haha... anyone have any ideas? I plan to call my dr after this weekend if I don't start my period. I don't think I'm going to even try an HPT, dr will probably run one in office so what's the point right??

Well I ended up having indigestion/heart burn upon awakening this morning which is a rare thing for me, the only other time I can recall having these symptoms was when I was pregnant with my son, who is now 2! That combined with some cravings for pickles constantly and swiss cheese (which I hate) made me decide to buy an HPT... which needless to say came back positive... now I had already scheduled an appt with my OBGYN before I found out so I'm keeping it just to double check that I am and that its not just some screwy hormones messing with my head again. Hubby and I are baffled by this since we were trying to stay away from each other around the time frame I was "supposed" to ovulate... it either came early or late and that's going to be my question for my Dr after he tells me whether I really am pregnant... along with the above mentioned symptoms I do have some other minor ones that I just attributed to my PMS! Well we're trying not to get our hopes up until I talk to my Dr but man is it hard not to since we had some trouble that past few months when we were Trying to conceive, and now that we decided to take a break from it... it may have just happened!

Many women don't ovulate when they are "supposed" to which is why going by the 14days after a period rule of thumb just doesn't work for many women. Fingers crossed for you!

Guess I haven't given an update on the situation for awhile... I AM pregnant, and as of now I am 11wks! I have been on progesterone supplement since I was 6wks, my progesterone level was 8.5 and so far so good! I have one more week to go on the supplement! We're stoked and my 2yr old keeps telling me I'm having a girl! We would like a girl but are happy with either... but should find out in a few weeks what the gender is!
