How do I unistall windows 98 from a computer without a windows 98 disk?
So I can install windows me on that computer.

Use the WIN98 startup diskette to format your harddisk.
Alternatively, you can do it after booting from the WINME CD too.
Of course, this will wipe out everything else on the HD.
If you do not want this to happen, just install WINME over the existing WIN98 installation ("upgrade").

Hi,
If you don't have the Win98/98SE install CD's, you probably don't have a boot floppy to use either... that's just a guess.
Install ME over the top of the 98.

However, I don't know hardly anyone who uses ME anymore... it does cause more problems than Win98/98SE; and is much harder to do Regular Maintenance on. The reason Microsoft came out with ME was to have another operating system on the market before it came out with 2000.
ME was the fastest product ever on the market... and most problems were never worked out.

Ahum, Fredg, if you don't have a startup diskette or WINXX-CD, you can make a startup diskette this way:
1. Click START, point to SETTINGS and click on CONFIGURATION.
2. Doubleclick on SOFTWARE.
3. Open the tab STARTUPDISKETTE and click on MAKE DISKETTE.
4. Follow the instructions on the display.

Hi, Urmod,
Without a Win98/98SE install CD or CD's, you CANNOT use your method to create a Boot Disk.
If you are interested, here are steps to create one:

Insert the Win98/98SE CD in the CD-ROM drive.
Go to Start/Programs/Windows Explorer
Double click on D:/ , if that is your CD-ROM drive letter.
Find and open the folder; Tools/Mtsutil/Fat32ebd (stands for Emergency Boot Disk)
Double click on the file Fat32ebd.exe and follow the instructions to create the Boot Disk.
Then remove the CD from the CD-ROM.

Now, we must test the Boot Disk to see if it works.
Shut down the computer; then turn it back on with the Boot Disk still in the computer.
When a screen comes up, use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to select "Boot with CD-ROM support". Then press Enter.
It will show some things about the computer, and then come up to the A:> prompt.
Now, insert a CD (any will do) into the CD-ROM.
Wait until it "spins" and the light goes off.
Now, at the A:> prompt, type in DIR D:
It will now look like A:>DIR D:
It should show all the files on the CD.
If so, the Boot Disk is good. If NOT, repeat all the above.
If it's good, then remove the CD, manually turn off the computer, and remove the Boot Disk. Turn on the computer and it's ready to go.

The person asking this question said they do NOT have a Win98 CD.
