Uh oh. We had this problem with our washer in the summer. It is very likely that the belt has slipped. In our case, the belt slipped, and the pulley system was shot. It would have been about $200-250 dollars to replace, before labor charges.

We decided against that, and got a new front loader (for $700 before rebates.) The front loaders are more energy and water efficient, and are gentler on clothes. There is also less chance for malfunction of these machines over the years.

If you have someone come look at your machine, their trip for doorbell ringing and look see is going to cost you something. Be sure to ask about the condition of the pulley system, and the transmission. Or start looking on Craigslist for either a new or used machine.

GE Washer won't agitate [ 4 Answers ]

I have a GE washer Model# GDSR4110T6WW that won't agitate. It fills with water. Then when the agitating starts, the motor kind of sounds like its turning on and off. The agitator moves about an inch back and forth. I can move the dial to the drain/spin cycle and that works fine. Any ideas?
