    The way film looks film/tv
Apologies if I have posted in the wrong section, if so directing me to the right section would be much appreciated.
Part of my problem is that I don’t really know how to ask the question, I have tried asking people before but I get the feeling they don’t get what I’m say due to poor way I put my question forward. So again apologies if the following if it turns out to be mumble jumble, I’ll try my best!
What is the sort of filming style/effect or thing that you see when the movie seems to be clearer. Examples: a low budget music video which looks like it’s filmed on a home video as opposed to a big budget music video which seems to be a lot clearer. The movies seem to be brighter or clearer. What I mean is when Only Fools and Horses was on TV there it looked sort of yellowish or done on a with a different light where as when they done the long sort of movie specials they looked like a film/something which was on cinema type of thing. What is that called? Is a difference in using a certain type of camera, film or lighting?. You know it’s the sort of difference between a low budget music video compared looks like.
    Please help

I'll try to help you. I think what you are looking for is plainly; effects. If the director wants to achieve a certain feel to the film, they will use filters that allow certain light tones to show up more clearer than others. A good example is "Natural Born Killers". All of the movie was shot using filters to help convey mood, action, what have you. In some scenes, especially the more violent ones, red tinges are present. When the "hero" goes to the drugstore to buy rattlesnake antivenom, those scenes are garishly lit with fluorescent light, creating an unearthly feel.
Also, film stock gives different appearances to film. And of course digital media makes what you see look different too. Take a low budget situation comedy, for example, and compare it to a higher budget location drama. The low budget probably uses digital video, and the high budget drama might actually film the action to produce a clearer picture.
Hope that "Cleared" up things for you.

Thanks big bopper, that's really helpful and its making a lot of sense to me... I'm happy,, seriously you wouldn't believe the amount of people I asked and didndt get an answer... so its film that makes it look like (in my opionin) a more professional looking vid than rather shooting on dv. Cool!. I'm going to check natural born killers again, think it's a great movie, but this time will watch it with how effects are used.
