    Debit or Credit
    If I am writing a check from our checking account, I would debit the checking account and credit accounts receivable correct?

    Incorrect.
    Funds going out of your chequing account would be a credit.

    You Debit the Account you are making the payment for. Example - Expense Account for the amount of the Check

    Credit Cash for the amount of the Check
