    Puppies 1st shots
I've got 10 lab puppies, who are 6 weeks old and I just got a quote from the vet... $660.00. I saw another question from a woman asking for information on how to give them their shots herself. I am going to do that myself. But am unsure as to where to buy the supplies from. I live in a small town in British Columbia, Canada. Does anyone now someplace on-line to purchase this medication, what exactly I should be buying (the names)?

I would like to answer your positively, but I can't recommend these procedures. I see nothing wrong with obtaining medications for dogs that are topical at best, but these are puppies that should be treated as you would treat any human baby, by a qualified doctor. Did the 660. Include a quantity discount by the way?

I am not being facetious asking that, but it seems to me you should shop around a bit.

I really have to say, that if you didn't know the cost involved before breeding your dog, why did you breed her when there are thousands of unwanted Purebred Lab puppies in shelters being euthanized every year, because of ill informed breeders? I would assume since this seems like a money issue, because you are trying to go the cheap route, that you are not an experienced breeder. If you were, you would not be asking this question, after the fact.

That is 10 more precious puppies, that will each have 10 more, and so on, unless you are responsible about it! Do you think that all of these dogs are going to go to a home that will keep them? I would venture to say, that at least 5 out of those 10 of your puppies will end up in a shelter, and die by no fault of their own. You really cannot deny this. It's really just a fact.

Not only should you take them to the vet for their first shots and a check-up, but if you are planning on selling them, you should have a contract that states each dog must be spayed or neutered at six months of age. Also, that if the families cannot keep the pups for any reason, that they shall be returned to you! If you are a responsible breeder, you will do this, and keep in contact with the people who have "bought" your puppies!

Responsible breeders will have official veteranarian health records, and the tags that show they got their first shots, and do not buy the shots on the internet! Unless you are a vet or vet tech, you don't even know how to give these shots properly!

Qualified breeders also make sure the pups have microchips, a clean bill of health, all of the records to show that, and usually a starter pkg, and information on how to care for your puppy.

I'm sure that you love your dog and her pups, but there is a lot of responsibility that comes with that job. Yes, it's a "job.", but not one that should be taken on for profit alone. You owe those sweet little faces at least this much! If you love dogs, please love them enough to ensure their well being, and please get the dam spayed after this litter.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I'm just saying what the dogs would say if they could talk!

Woah, that's super cheap. 660 dollars for ten puppies? That is only 66 dollars for the first shots, unless my math is wrong. Odin's first shots was 86 dollars.

You shouldn't administer shots unless you've been trained and qualified. Heh.
