If it tarnishes it's silver. Silver isn't really that valuable though, unless of course it's also an antique silverware set.

At least that's what I've experienced. I have a really old silverware set, sadly it's value in actually money isn't enough for me to part with the value it has for me personally.

The newer silverware sets usually have a coating that prevents tarnishing, and of course, because they are newer, they wouldn't be as valuable.

I hope this helped answer your question. :)

    Hi, 4mysami!

Would you care to give some additional specifics about that which you're inquiring? Is this something that's been in your family? How many and what kind of pieces might this be concerning, please?

Does what you have tarnish or not?

    Thanks!

Sterling (solid) silver sets are rare and worth a lot if they are complete and in good condition. Take a piece to a local jeweler (a real one - not the mall) and they will be able to tell. There will be a mark on the piece.

Silverplate is more common and tarnishes as well. It isn't as valuable, understandably.
