I remember as a kid (mid 80's) seeing a strange animated sci fi movie and I've been trying to find it again. It started with a family in a strange insect-like vehicle on an alien planet and it was a bit like 'lost in space'. They meet another human and he betrays the family. What I remember most is the end. There is a huge cave of souls and the bad guy trivks the father into going into this light beam and it starts sucking his soul out. The bad guy has a change of heart, shoves the father out and takes his place. He gets his soul ripped out and the whole cave starts to collapse and the family escapes.

Now, I've asked this in a few other places and I'm sure it's not Fantastic Planet, nor is it Ulysses 31. I'm stumped. Can anyone help please:confused:?

I think I know what you're talking about. I used to watch it as a kid too and I'm looking for it now too. Did the main character happen to be a boy with some sort of... ring or something maybe? I can't quite remember. I faintly recall a girlfriend of some sort in there and a betrayal of some sort somewhere. And something about robots... I can't remember it all, just little pictures and flashes of what happens. Does any of this sound right? I'm trying to find it too if it is the same thing. It's eating away at me! I hope you find the movie you're looking for!
