What are the requirement on a form 2848 if my spouse will be my represenative?
I am in the Navy and will be deployed during tax season. My wife and I file jointly. I read over the 2848 but am a bit confused how I should fill it out for my wife to be able to sign for me while I am away.

Yes, you can file joint return. Both of you must sign the tax return. Your wife can not sign for you.

Form 2848 to authorize an individual to represent you before the IRS. You do not need this form.

    Skinner:

Go to the Navy JAG and have them cut a Power of Attorney to allow your wife to sign your name on the tax return. That should cover you for the upcoming tax season.
