    Chil custody/support confusion
Hi I'm a 20 year old marine in NC, I am currently 27 weeks and four days pregnant. The father left to Florida for college for a year and six months this past September. He calls about once or twice a month usually drunk and does not seemm to be to concerned about the pregnancy. He and I are not together and are not married. He says he wants to help with the child when he returns, but how to I keep myself safe, what precautions can I take to ensure that he helps take care of the child. And how can I prevent him from possibly coming back and demanding custody or taking the baby. He has not been here for me or with me through the whole pregnancy thus far and has made no attempt to help with child costs. WHAT DO I DO?

When the child is born take the father to Court for support. DNA testing will be done, paternity will be declared, support and custody will be ordered.

As the father he is entitled to joint custody or visitatation with his child. He is not entitled to "take" the child from you unless you are unfit.

If you are deployed he will most probably have the ability to obtain custody (if he is fit and stable) until you return.
