    Open the temperature/pressure relief valve
I am not sure how to open the tpv valve on my water heater. I am trying to drain my water heater and I have read that this needs to be done as well. I also want to check that it is working.

The tempoture and pressure relief valve has a little lever sticking out the end, simply lift the lever. It is possible that in opening the valve it will never close completely again, if so the only thing to do is to replace it.

Why do you drain your water heater, if you are flushing your water heater there is no need for T&P valve to be open, if you need to know how to flush the water heater get back to me will send you the instructions, for opening the T&P see the image below, good luck?
