Disclosing felonies after they been dismissed
    Hi there,
I had 3 felonies that were 17 years old. I went to court and had them dismissed by the court that convicted me. On one of them I was sentenced to 4 years in state prision and served 2. I have the orders from the judge saying my felonies were dismissed. I apply for a job with the county and said "no" to the question of convictions.
Was I within my legar right? Or do I still need to disclose them?
    Thanks

After 7 years of a felony charge, you do not have to disclose the felony on your job applications. But you should check with the attorney that handled your case to make sure these felonies are off your record. They can do so by using Lexisnexis.com or Westlaw.com. Good luck.

First they would not be "dismissed" you were convicted. They would have been explunged, taken off your record, but not dismissed.

They will not show up on public search from the police department, but they will be visiable to the police and to any agency that requires a security background clearance.

Also since there were public record at one time, many of the private search companies may already have them in file, so they are not erased since they are private companies and not effected by government rules on the police records.

    This is for the US
