    What rights
I need to find out if I have any rights regarding my niece. I have been trying to reach who I thought had custody of her for a year but she would never return my phone calls. I then recently found out she was no longer with this person but was in foster care and going to go up for adoption. I quickly put in a letter of intent to try to get custody of her. My name was never put on her list of contacts and the woman who I thought had tempoary custody would not return my calls even though she knew who I was and wanted to see my niece. Dhs tells me that the family she is with want to adopt her. My niece is 5 now and I had contact with her from birth until 4. She has 2 brothers she has not seen in a year and I can provide that for her. I just don't know if I have a chance of getting her.

You would need an Attorney if you are to stop the adoption process. When your niece first went into the custody of the "other person," did you try to get custody and/or guardianship? Did you consult with an Attorney a year ago when you couldn't contact your niece?

I see no chance at all without an Attorney.
