Hook up dvd recorder to Direct hd receiver & hd TV
Just bought a new hd recorder with hd tuner & have satellite Direct hd receiver hooked to hd TV. The satellite receiver only has a cable in & then uses a Hdm to run to the TV. I tried hooking up the satelight coax to the dvd in and then running a coax from dvd out to the satellite & when I do, no picture appears on TV. If satelight receiver also had an out I would just run it to the dvd but that is not the case! I tried running the hdm into the dvd rather than the TV & then hooking up to the out ant cable on dvd & run that to the TV cable in but no picture! What do I need to do? Thanks danny

HDMI is by definition a video and audio protocol.

That said, let me make sure I have the installation setup straight.

You have a Direct TV dish, connected via RC6 cable to the HD receiver.

From the HD Receiver, you are connected to the TV and you are trying to add the DVR into the circuit.

My suggestion would be to use the HDMI cable to the DVR (IN) and either use the HDMI (OUT) or Component (RGB) HD (Video) out to the TV.

Then you would also need a sound processor, unless your TV is equipped with a Dolby Digital sound processor.

Normally, you would configure this setup with a AV unit.

This would allow you connect the DTV receiver into the HDMI port on the receiver. Then the TV and the DVR are connected via their respective ports. Now all you would need is the surround sound processor which is contained in the AV unit and speakers .

donf, Thanks! I got it hooked up & it records off t.v. now! I found a splitter that had two satellite ins & unhooked the hd sat. receiver cable & hooked into one side of splitter & hooked the other satelight in to a cable that hooked in dvd antenna in. Then on dvd antenna out I ran a cable to the TV antenna end! The single end of the splitter I ran straight into the hd receiver! I also hooked up an s-video from dvd to the t.v. but I may change that out with component jack plugs with blue green red! I tried recording the station I was on and played back & worked fine, so I am hoping all is well! Thanks again! Glad I saved old parts & cables from Dish receiver I sent back! Danny
