Puppies will sleep a lot at that age, but they also need lots of playtime. Labs are smart dogs, and 8 weeks isn't too early to start teaching them simple commands like sit, or down, and how to walk on a leash. Get your dog used to the leash and start with short walks down the street, and then increase the distance by a few yards or so the next time. Watch for him to start getting tired, and that is time to go home, and one thing you never want to get into the habit of doing, is picking him up to carry him home. The walk was too long is it looks like you have to do that. You don't want to teach him he will get carried if is tired. That will not be good for your back when he gets older if he thinks that is okay, lol. Labs are usually very quick learners, so the earlier you get him started, the better, because his energy level will definitely increase in no time.

Good luck with your new puppy! :)
