Are you talking about your own website that you're building or at other websites?

If at other websites, then chances are it's a problem on their side and they need to do a bit more work on their website.

Can't be the websites because it happens on different websites and it can't just be coincidence. Also, I can click on certain links within a website, but others on the same website take me nowhere.

    1. It might help characterize the problem if you'd post your operating system (Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X, etc.) and which browser you're using. Also, have you installed anything that affects your browser's behavior (plugins, extra menu items, extensions, etc)?

    2. Are there certain kinds of link that cause problems (e.g. links to videos, etc.)? Or do you see this in general with all kinds of links?

    3. When you say the links "take you nowhere", what do you see when you click the link: does the link change color? Does it do nothing? Are you taken to a blank page? etc.

    4. Are the same links not working on the same websites all the time, or do they work one time and not work another? Can you give an example of a website and link that doesn't work (sometimes looking at the source code for the page might give a clue)?

It might be your security, such as Norton. Try disabling Norton and then click on the problem links again. Norton often interfers with how your computer operates.
