    Statutory Rape?
Hi all, I am 16 Years old living in Canada and I'm currently seeing someone who is 20. We are concerned about the law and were wondering if age is an issue with us, because I am younger than the legal age of adulthood and he is older.

See I thought otherwise because apparently Canada doesn't have a stat law. And because legal age of consent is 14... I guess not thou huh?

Canada law states that, if the age difference is greater than 2 years its still statutory rape.

So obviously you are considering having sex with this person. A 20 yr old and a 16 yr old are at very different places in their development. It is unusual for a 20 yr old to want a relationship with a 16 yr old for anything but sex.

Yes it helped, but see at this point I am very different from a normal 16 year old. I have a daughter and am much more mature than the average 16 year old. And ps he is the one saying no.

If he is the one saying no, pay attention to him. He does not want to get in trouble, and since the age difference is greater than 2 years it is possible for him to be labeled a sex offender.

I understand you are 16, and because you have a child you have had to mature faster than most 16 year olds, however, you both are still in very different stages in life.

Respect the fact that he does not want to have sex with you because he may be afraid of getting in trouble with the law.

Yes, you NEED to respect that he is afraid that you are jail bait. Plus, the fact that you already have a child is not an attraction .

Yes and to be blunt, all 16 year olds think they are more mature than all the other 16 year old, I would have been shocked if you did not believe this. That is part of being 16.

Actually he loves my daughter, and that is not the reason he doesn't want to sleep with me. But as to my original question, it was purely to find out the facts, I was not intending to sleep with him, if it happened it did, and if so I would like to be informed. So thank you for your help, if anyone else has comments please feel free to say so.

Right, it's the age difference that matters, not how mature you are or are not.

In fact, he sounds like a good guy, quite unlike the usual 16 year olds who post whose boyfriends spend 99.9% of their time trying to get them into bed.

Thank you Judy, he really is a good guy, and the reason I'm even thinking of him as an option is because he has respect for me and my daughter, he is a great guy. Right now we are just great friends, if something was to happen though, id like to be informed.

Well, you have the answer to the "if something happens" question - I'm sure it's not easy (an understatement - I was once 16 myself!) but maybe the friendship is a great way to start an even greater "relationship."

Sounds like a responsible, respectful guy - good luck!

What I'm saying is that a 16 yr old who already has one baby doesn't present the most attractive package.
