    Reconciling father and daughter
I was a single parent. My daughters father was not in her life for 16 years, although I always left the door open for him to be in her life. Shortly before she turned 16 he finally decide he wanted to be in her life. Things were good for a few years between them. My daughter was even building a relationship with her half brother and sister. Then almost 2 years ago she called and needed his help. She had taken a friend to the airport and came out to a flat tire, she did not have a jack, and no one at the airport could or would help. Her father lived 30 minutes away and claimed he couldn't leave to help her as he had people coming over and a cake in the oven. (lame excuse I know) Since that time she has not talked to him. He waited 4 months to appologize, and then did it by text message. I don't blame her for being angry and hurt. But how to I help bridge the gap that widens everyday?

You don't. At her age (and his) they're capable of working out this relationship for themselves, or not.

I understand your concern. He chose a cake and company preparations over helping a stranded daughter. These dominoes have been toppled and you must let them fall on their own.

Other than trying to explain to her father why she was angry and not speaking to him, I have stayed out of it. I just do not think it is good for my daughter to harbor this anger.
