    Changing last name
Hello, I was wondering if you guys could help me. When my fiancée got divorced from her ex husband she did not have her last name changed as she was told it would be too much work, rather false information. Well, now she would like to change her last name back to her maiden one, how would she go about doing this?

Does she need to get a lawyer? What paperwork needs to be filled out? Cost?

We live in New Jersey, if that's helpful

    Thanks!

Nope, She just starts using whatever name she wants to. If she is questioned, she shows a copy of her birth certificate and divorce decree.

What about for her drivers license, bank accounts or things of that nature?

Thanks Scott, I always appreciate your quick and knowledgeable replies

For her drivers license she takes in her birth certificate and the divorce decree. Same thing with the social security office (it's always easier when your ss card and drivers license match). After that she can go into the bank and close the account and reopen it in her new name if she wants or just do the same thing there too. It's basically everything you do when you get married just the reverse process.

So she doesn't have to pay that $200 fee I have been reading about on the internet for NJ.

Her divorce decree doesn't say she is assuming her name again though. Does that change things?

My outside unit leaks Freon and needs to be replaced. The system is about 9-10 years old. Initially, the contractor gave me a $2500 estimate to change the outside unit to a new Trane XR14.
