    Getting Engaged to my Marine!
    Im 19 and I am currently attending community college and will be transferring next fall to a 4 yr school to finish my degree. My boyfriend is 21 and is a Corporal in the Marine Corps stationed in Jacksonville, NC. He has been in 2 1/2 yrs (he will be out June of 2011 if he decides not to re enlist). We have been dating almost a year and both know we want to spend the rest of our lives together. We have talked about getting engaged sometime between Christmas and June of this yr. and getting married in June of 2011 (he would be 23 and I would be 21). I would have 1 yr. of school left to finish but most of my classes will be online and I plan on working part time and taking my classes at night. Every one in my family is very excited except for my father. He loves my boyfriend to to death and think we are both very mature but he does not want us to get engaged because he thinks my BF will not be able to support me on a Military salary. We have looked at what he will make and if I am also working we feel we would have no problems "making ends meet". I would just like to know if there is anyway maybe to make my father more comfortable or if you would tend to agree with him about how our financial state would be??

    People live on soldiers pay all the time. Not always easy but you make due.

    I said the same thing I mean I know we wouldn't have much extra to spend but I know tons of Marines who are married who's wives do not even work!
