    Sick of Depression
Well I'm still a teenager about to move out and go to college, but I don't have the greatest mental health... I have a histroy of hurting myself and attempts at ending my life and just being depressed for no apparent reason quite a bit.also I have panic and anxiety attacks sometimes when nothing is happenening to cause it. My mom is aware of my situation but not to the full extent, I'm afraid if I let her in on everything she will freak out and send me away to some hospital which I wouldn't be able to do since my friends keep me going. Should I maybe see the school counsler or will he try to bring my parents into this, what about going to a psychitrist and getting evalutaed? I really don't like doctors at all though so I'm kind of stuck I'm sick of feeling like this though. That's for sure. Any suggestions?

    Hi, stephascope!

It does sound like if you would see a professional of some kind that you would benefit by doing so.

I would start by seeing your counselor in school.

Are you and your mom on good speaking terms?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I have been in your shoes, thinking the help others got may not be the help I needed. That was the depression talking.

Depression and anxiety attacks sometimes are very comfortable bed buddies, but they are not incurable.

First is to really accept that you need help,It isn't a defect in you, It isn't a defect in your family, you need not have guilt about it.

And before you leave for the collage years, wouldn't it be nice to do so with a great outlook on life? instead of the same old way it has been for the past?? years??

Medical coverage isn't something to take lightly,If your family has it,use it!!

As to your post about being sent to a hospital, would that be such a bad thing, considering how things are right now?

The definition of insanity is: DOING THE SAME THINGS,EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS.

How will you change without some outside help, even if you have to be hospitalized for a week?Or 2 weeks?to be correctly diagnosed by a professional, maybe medicated till this passes.

If you want to end the suffering you have been through, take that first step and ask for the help you deserve.

I know from my own experiences that I didn't want the help, didn't want to ask,and wasn't willing to let go of the familiar feelings associated with the depression,anxiety,etc... This lead to many years of less than ideal living(to put it nicely)

If you want to be free of the monkey on your back, tell your friends your going to take some time for yourself and do the right thing, think of your future, not what others think about you right now.

Sorry so scatterbrained,I am on some really heavy meds for knee pain, but my information is meant well anyway:)

Hope to hear from you soon,

    Ken
