Hi,
My name is muddasir and I am asking from pakistan. Actually I live in a flat on the first floor. Few weeks back suddenly foul smell water started seeping through our roof of our bathroom which is actually the floor of the bathroom of upper flat. When we went there on upper flat we found out that water is coming from thebath room and exactly beneath the wash basin present there. The wash basin pipe has its drainage line and our plumber said that it was from either water line connecting to wash basin or the p-trap present in the ground in which the drainage pipe of wash basin is going. The wet area in our roof is is circular and has foul smell. The problem is that flat is empty and no one is using the wash basin as yet.
Its quite confusing . Some people are saying that it is coming from upper flat on the third floor then directly to first floor in which our flat is present.

This should be the concern of the owner of the apartment building. He should pay for the repair. Having said that I believe the drainage's connected between the flats and you're getting drainage from the third floor that overflowed in the second floor bath and in turn dripped down on your ceiling. Have you contacted the owner and what does he say? Regards, tom

Actually the problem is that when I say drainage line it does not mean drainage line , the problem is that we live on first floor and the flat above is second floor now , the water is coming on ceiling or roof of our bathroom, now the flat on second floor also has bathroom above our bathroom. The area on which water iscoming is just below the pipe that is used to drain water of washbasin of upper floor.
I hope you understand what I am saying . If water coming from third floor there should be any spot or wet area also on the ceiling of second floor owner.

This is one of those problem where you have to be there. What does your landlord say? By now you should have him involved. Does the water come out in a steady drip or is the ceiling simply damp all the time? Tom

There is dampness but there is a specific point on which water also drip in a steady way.

Somebody's going to have to determine if this is a drainage leak or a pressure leak. Hasn't the landlord sent any body in to check it out? Regards, Tom

Actually the plumber we've hired has told us that the pipe that come inside the ground for wash basin has a ptrap in it and it has leaked that is why water is coming from our ceiling . Although no one is living in upper floor .

Although we have now disconnected main water connection to the that house but still water is still dripping down from ceiling

Hi,
Muddasir is here. Actually after long investigation it is now quiet clear that there is a hole in the ceiling from which water from somewhere from upper flat is dripping to the roof of our bathroom and is damping the bathroom area. Now we still don't know where this water in the form of drops is coming although water is clear without any foul smell and initially the frequency of dripping was higher but as we have turn off the main water supply of upper flat (as the flat is empty uptill now) then the dripping frequency is very less. My question is that if we sealed that hole would water stop? Or it would spread to the whole celing?
