2001 Toyota Seqouia A/C not working
    Hello,

I know somebody that has a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. The Air Conditioner in the car worked for about 6 Years. Then it stopped working and it was blowing regular air not cold but room tempature air. First time she took it in fixed it. And the second time. The mechanic said it was working. Then it broke again. Is this a recall or something?

    Thanks please give me anwers,

    Bsaah

When is your friend having the issue? We tell a lot of people to have their AC serviced in the summer simply because you can't really do as good of a job in the fall or winter as you can in the summer; it's a lot harder to tell if the AC is working properly or if it's just the outside temperature.

Do you know if the mechanic did a dye leak test to make sure nothing was leaking on the system?

It sounds like she has a leak somewhere in the system, which is allowing all of the freon to leave the system. Once it's warmer out, have someone perform a dye leak test to determine where the leak is.

So nothing is coming out of the vents? Or there's only room temperature air at all times?

She could have something wrong inside of the dash. We just had a Monte Carlo in here with dual climate control; the motor that switched the vent door from hot to cold for the driver's side had gone out, leaving it blowing only cold air into the vehicle. It could also be a bad thermostat, a plugged heater core, etc... but none of these would cause the air conditioning to not work.

The heating and air conditioning systems are separate; one is filled with antifreeze and the other is filled with freon. It sounds like your friend has multiple problems if she doesn't have air conditioning in the summer or heat in the winter.

It could be anything. The AC not working could be a bad compressor, a leak in the system, a plugged system, and so on. The heat not working could be a bad vent door, a plugged heater core, a bad thermostat... it's very hard to diagnose without having the vehicle in front of you.

Not that I'm aware of. While not always, a recall is typically reserved for something that's a safety issue; not having heat isn't going to cause the vehicle to break down.

If there was a recall, your friend would have received notification from Toyota telling her to bring the vehicle in and they would remedy the problem free-of-charge.
