    Clutch is slipping?
I have Nissan 350Z manual transmission. When I step on the gas while driving, the car instead of accelerating speed accelerates the engine speed for few seconds. Does it mean that the linig of the clutch is worn?

Yes. It could also mean the pressure plate is worn and not keeping the clutch disc in contact with the flywheel.
Both the clutch disc and the pressure plate should be replace together, along with the throw-out bearing. The flywheel should be inspected for heat cracks and warpage. If it appears OK, clean the surface with fine sandpaper or similar.

    Hi,
Thanks for the answer. I had to have the whole clutch replace for $1200. Is it possible that a clutch could wear out in 35,000 miles?

I had premature cluth failure too and the dealer didn't catch why.
The one before that was a busted pilot bearing which was also premature.

It wasn't until I did the job myself that I found out why. A very large bolt was missing from the clutch housing to engine. Once I replaced that, I had normal failures. Replaced the car at 237K miles and 17 years.

That price seems just a little high... but prices will vary significantly from one area to another.
Have gotten more than one estimate?
I'd also ask about there warranty and exactly what they are replacing for that price.
Did they offer to replace the engine's rear main seal? They should, since they'll be very close to it.
    Let us know...

    Hi,
Thanks. I got 2 estimates. One from Nissan was $2100 ( they wanted to replace the flywheel) and the other was $1200. Thw clutch alone was over $500. I am only questioning the life time of a clutch. The car had only 35,000 miles.

No way should the clutch go that fast on a new 350z or any car for that matter - under normal/correct operation.
However - If you are launching from 5k every time you start or riding out the clutch it is very possible...
    Not under warranty?

It can be related on how you drive, something wrong with the system, or the type of car. I used to drive a 3-speed 1966 mustang and replaced the clutch at least once in 10,000 miles. My GEO was at 160,000 miles when the clutch went.

The car you are driving should keep it's clutch way longer than 35,000 miles. Dealers charge too much in my opinion. Your second opinion is still a pretty high estimate. If you can, tear it apart yourself. Ask around for a good mechanic, you may find a lower price.

Yeah that's because a geo makes NO power...

And I think the clutch has already been replaced - but good advice!
