    Baby name issue!
My husband and I are pregnant with our first child together. We are having a girl, and having a little trouble with names. Right now, we are naming her Olivia Grace. My great grandmother's name was Olive, and our 22 year old friend passed away suddenly a year ago, her name was Valerie Grace. My grandmother also passed away a year ago, and her name was Barbara, and her maiden name was Eleanor. My mom suggested recently if we could consider Olivia Eleanor instead of Olivia Grace. I don't want to drop the name "Grace" - because that has meaning as well, but I have talked to my husband about Olivia Grace Eleanor. It's kind of a lengthy name (without the last name put on yet), but I'm wondering if I should do that out of respect for my grandmother, or just wait until another baby in the family comes around to do "Eleanor". Any ideas?

I personally like the cadance and sound of eleanor olivia grace... and I love grace as a first or middle name... but I actually had a friend who went by "livy", from olivia, and always thought it an interesting, fun angle on her name.

As for your suggestion, olivia eleanor grace, being too long... I think you can get away with it, with many families taking the names of both parents more common now... I know that's not your situation, but it similar in length to something like joseph matthew brown smith...

Glad you are trying to keep fam names... my sons first and middle name is Daniel McLeod, named after his grandfather... of course it was only after we named him that we found out his middle name, McLeod, was the name of the doctor who delivered the grandfather.. who said to the parents "i have no sons, so this one is mine!" jokingly... apparently the parents thought it was a good idea.

    Congratulations.

I also like keeping the family names in the family.

My kids each have a first name that we picked because we loved the sound of it, but their middle names are very special to me.

My daughter is Sydney Irene (Irene was my mothers name, she passed away 13 months before Sydney was born)

My son is Jared Stefan (Stefan was my dads name, he passed away when Jared was 2 1/2 years old)

In the end it's up to you, no one else. I love Olivia Grace, it has a nice ring to it and the meaning behind it is very special.

    Congrats and good luck. :)

I like Olivia Grace, it is really pretty! Save the rest of the names for your future kids.
