In need of examples/ideas for low-cost, formal employee recognition programs.
I am looking for examples of low cost, formal, company-wide employee recognition programs that have been successful in organizations in the past or of recent. I work in human resources and need to come up with a some examples and the steps that were taken to implement these programs. Thank you.

    Julie,
We have a program called "(company name) Bucks"

It has worked well for us for a number of years now.

I print out fake money in different denominations 1.00, 2.00, 5.00, 10.00. I print the 1.00 on green, the 2.00 on yellow, the 5.00 on pink and the 10.00 on blue paper.

I went around to different merchants and purchased gift cards in 10.00 increments. I made sure that each of the ones I purchased the merchant does not give cash back for a purchase and the card must be used out unless it is under 1.00.

I put these cards in an expanding file in my desk with a book to keep track of the gift cards as they go out and as they are purchased.

The employees receive the "___Bucks" from their supervisors when they are nominated by another employee or when the supervisor feels they have gone above and beyond their duties.

I also give out "___Bucks" for blood draws and for Halloween costume contests, pumpkin carving contests, Weight loss challenge programs.

The employee can than come to the store and purchase a gift card with their "__Bucks".

The employees like it and it is not too much work most of the companies either let me order the certificates on line or they have them reading and waiting when I go in to pick them up.

We have cards for Red Robin, McDonald's, Subway, Wal-Mart, Regal Cinema, D&B Supply (local farm store), Outback, AppleBee's and a local car wash.

It could be any number of different places just so they cannot cash them out for cash.

    Shirley
