Replumb house for boiler - too cold in winter.
    Hi,
We have a 50 yr old home with a boiler that we replaced when we moved in (2003). If it is below freezing outside the inside temp will barely get above 64. And the upstairs (cape cod design) will be freezing. We have to use electric heaters up there. Any idea how much it costs to replumb the house ? Or would "zoning" help ? Apparently the pipes coming from the boiler are 3/4" then go down to a 1/2" as they go upstairs.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as the kids are freezing.
    Thank you

Fish in Outdoor Ponds in Cold Winter Areas [ 10 Answers ]

I have heard about this being possible, but didn't know if it was true. If you were to have and were maintaining a small, man-made pond in a place such as the upper Midwest in the United States, is it possible for fish to survive over the winter while remaining in the pond? I mean, if it's...

Selling house: turn off water heater/water in winter [ 1 Answers ]

I am in mid-Michigan where winters can be long and cold. I am selling a house, which is vacant, and I am looking for advice on if I should drain the water pipes and turn off the gas water heater during the winter months. I would rather not pay high gas bills to heat water that I am not using. The...

New mains shower, reasonably new Combi-boiler, but hot-cold-hot-cold-hot-cold shower! [ 4 Answers ]

I've recently had a new bathroom put in, with a mains shower (used to be electric). But now my shower keeps running hot-cold-hot-cold every minute or so. My bath tap and sink tap in the bathroom are running fine, it's just the shower. I was told this shouldn't happen as I have a combi-boiler but...

Shut of water to house and not boiler [ 3 Answers ]

We have a boiler. When we are not home we would like to shut off the water in the house. We have had conflicting opinions about the boiler. We were told that if we shut off water to the boiler and there are any pin hole leaks in the system, eventually the boiler could "dry fire" and have...
