Generally there is a hook up charge for the box that calls up to monitor you. The monthly fee is usually around $150+ a month.
You cannot have call waiting, dial up internet or an answering machine or voice mail on the phone line where the big box hooks up to or they will not allow the box to be hooked up in your home. You cannot leave the premises under any circumstances once the box has called you in for the night. If your range won't let you go get the mail (for instance) without going out of the box's range, you can't go get the mail. You can't walk the dog, etc. If you DO get out of range the box calls up the cops and a cop car will usually show up at your home within a short period to see where you are and why you got out of range. If your PO tells you you can only go grocery shopping on Tuesday between 3-5PM and can be out of the house at that time, that is the ONLY time that you can do grocery shopping, etc. Get my drift? Also tampering with the ankle bracelet such as cutting it off or slipping it off is an immediate escape attempt and will get you immediately back in jail for attempted escape from jail. Yep. Another charge. Once you get your ankle monitor, carefully read and understand the times you can leave home and question your PO about it if you have any questions or otherwise you can land yourself back in jail real quick.
