    Lien on home and bankruptcy
    If there is a lien on my house and I file bankruptcy, is the lien dissolved?

    A judgment is a court order whereby the Court agrees with the creditor that you owe a certain sum. This judgment provides creditor with collection options such as garnishment or a lien on real property that they would otherwise not have. When a person goes bankrupt, the debt on which the judgment is based is subject to discharge. If the debt upon which the judgment is based is discharged in bankruptcy so is the judgment. The judgment creditor must remove the lien upon the discharge of the bankrupt. While the party is in bankruptcy, the judgment is not enforceable due to the Stay of Proceedings.
