Thermostat issue. Are there usually two thermostats?
I have baseboard heat with an OLD boiler system. I have two pumps, one for the downstairs and one for upstairs. Each of them have their own thermostat.

Downstairs works great but the upstairs stopped working. I noticed that the red and white wire that come from the upstairs goes into another thermostat in the basement. Does that make sense?

So anyway, when I turn on the upstairs thermostat nothing happens. When I turn it on upstairs and then manually push on the "rocker switch" in the basement thermostat, it turns on. When I turn it off on the thermostat upstairs it turns off the rocker switch in the basement. SO, the problem is that it will not turn on manually. Any ideas?

I can take pictures if you need me to. Thanks!

I got that part of it working finally BUT NOW, the pump doesn't seem to be getting water up through to the baseboard. The upstairs baseboards were cold this morning but the pump was running and had been running most of the night. Any ideas?

Bleed the air out of the system if necessary.

Make sure the system water pressure is set correctly.
