    My water smells of corpses!
I've found several topics talking about a "sewer smell" coming from the plumbing, but as I'm not very familiar with sewers (other than the fact that they probably don't smell good), I'm not sure if it's very accurate to describe this smell like that.

What I can say is that my water smells like a dead animal. The smell has actually made it into my home office, but it seems to be coming from the toilet in the nearest bathroom.

I've noticed this smell a few times when I was outside, too, mostly around my septic tank area. It was hard to pinpoint, though, as I'd only smell it when I walked around certain areas.

And what "certain areas" would you be referring to?" Have you considered that the wax seal might be ruptured? If that's where the smell's the worst I would pull the toilet and reset it with a new wax seal. Answer Chucks question about your septic tank. Good luck, Tom

Inside the house, the only area that it's coming from is the bathroom nearest the office, as I mentioned. The "certain areas" pertaining to the outside of my house is basically around the perimeter of the septic tank itself. It's just that it's intermittent, as if I only smell it when I walk a certain way around the septic tank (I noticed this when I was cutting grass). I've also smelled it coming around the sides of the house near the entrance to the crawl space. Then again, that might not be saying much because that entrance is near my septic tank.

I don't know if it's been pumped or not. It's a new house, so I'd assume it hasn't been pumped at all. I've lived in it since this past March. I'm not sure how long it's been constructed, though. Apparently, someone else was going to buy it, but before he moved in, he was foreclosed on and the builder had to sell the house again fairly quickly.

As a side note, I did have a septic tank repairman come look at it when I had some trouble with the septic alarm. He didn't mention anything about pumping it, though he did fix some trouble I had with a float in there.
