Installing ceiling fan to existing junction box-wiring?
I am intalling a ceiling fan with light to an existing junction box that had a chandelier light previously.(old home). I have one switch, and out of the junction box is 1 white, 1 black, 1 copper. The second set is 1 live black, 1 switched red, 1 white. Currently the two black are wire nutted together. I want to have switched lighting to my light and pull chain for my fan. It is a Harbor Breeze fan (which I might regret after reading some topics).

    All whites together.
Black in ceiling to black from the fan.
Red from the ceiling to the blue from the fan.

You ARE replacing the box with a fan rated box, right?

Thank you for your help. And I never thought about the ceiling fan rated box. It held a very large heavy old chandalier, but the load from the rotating blades will be great. I will do this first. Back to the hardware store. Better safe than sorry.

Did Stan's wiring work? If not, please tell us how the chandelier was wired.

I'm daring enough to hang fans on non-rated metal boxes, but I wouldn't advise anyone else to do it.
