My 3 year old son flushed a strawberry shortcake happy meal doll down the toilet. Now it is stopped up. The water rizes in the toilet bowl and then slowly drains out over time. I am pretty sure she is still in there. I really can't afford a plumber... can someone tell me what I need to do to get her out of there? Will Draino melt plastic?? :confused:

Know any fishermen? Get about 3' of fishing line and a trible hook, flush the hook down the toilet while holding the line, now slowly and firmly pull back on the line. Might have to try it more than once to snag ol' strawberry gal.

First thing is to stcik your hand into toilet and see if you can reach up and grab this toy.

Then can try Ballenger's (Bob's) idea...

Another idea will be to go purchase a CLOSET AUGER (about$20.00... see picture) from home depot and send the auger down the toilet. Once head gets through the toilet you will want to pull back on it strongly to see if you can pull it out.

If that doesn't work then it may simply be easiest to LIFT the toilet and try to remove toy from under the base!

This should only cost you a wax gasket and a pair of toilet bolts if all goes well!

This happened to a tenant of my mothers... she just replaced the toilet, and eventually founds loads and loads of toilet paper and burger kind kids meals toys! Lol.If your toilet is old, you may want a new one anyway! And buying a new toilet is much, much cheaper than a plumber!

I disagree with Zawatskis advice. Toilets don't "wear out" and need to be replaced. Follow Marks advice and auger the bowl,(see image) No Joy? Then go fishing with 3' of fishing line and a trible hook, If that doesn't do it You can pull the toilet and go in from the bottom. Pulling a toilet and going into the bottom to clear a obstruction is a dirty messy job best left to us dirty messy plumbers. Having said that.
If you have used a closet auger on it and it's still clogged, chances are you will find it in the bend of the trap in the bowl. Turn off the water at the angle stop. Sponge out the tank and bowl. Remove the closet bolts and lift straight up. Have a piece of cardboard to set it on. Now tilt it over on its side. Careful, you still have about a gallon of water left in the trap. Now take a coathanger, put a hook in it and go fishing up the bottom to see if you can hook the happy meal doll or whatevers caught up there. All you will need to reset the stool is a new wax seal. If your tub and lavatory drains OK and nothing backs up in your tub or shower then it's almost certain it's in the bowl. Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. TOM

I agree with both Tom and Mark. Toilets are one of the few things that can just keep going and going, no pun. The china doesn't wear out and the rest can be replaced or repaired. Buying a new toilet because the old one is clogged just doesn't add up.

I got a "Reddie" from zawatska for saying toilets don't wear out and need to be replaced. He,(or she) said,

I never said the toilet needs replaced because its wore out. If she cannot get the toy out of the toilet then OBVIOUSLY she needs to replace it.

However, this is the sentence I responded to.;

.If your toilet is old, you may want a new one anyway!

I repeat. Toilets do not wear out, the innards do but the toilet bowl and tank do not. Just setting the record straight. Tom

A few items that will cause bowl replacement:
1. Cracked
2. Holes around the rim that can't be cleaned effectively
3. You don't like the color now

When was the last time, you replaced your dishes? I'l bet they were cracked or they didn't match the décor?

Once again, I'm not saying that the toilet needs replaced because it is worn out... I'm saying if she can't get the toy out, and maybe the toilet is all crusty, old, turned colors, or anything, then maybe the easiest solution would be BUY A NEW TOILET.

I notice that speedball chose to "disagree" in a post, and not a "disagree" rating of an answer. One is a judgement, the other an open discussion. I think the later is best.

If being agreed with all the time is that important or you are that thin skinned, zawatska, its going to be a long, disappointing life.

By the way, her "old" statement could have referred to look or style, not function. My wife has her eye on a replacement commode and for the life of me I don't get why this "update" is needed... but she sees something in this different style that it I don't other than money flushed, well, you know...

Nothing about, old, crusty or discolored in that atatement. You added that simply to make yourself look better. Now that may be what you meant to say but you didn't. I simply picked up on what you said. Let it drop! Tom
