    Babysitting fee
    Good Morning!

Not being a parent myself, I thought I might be able to get some good advice from this board.

A co-worker that I am on friendly terms with has asked me to babysit her two children, a 6 month old and a 2 year old, overnight. I told her I would be happy to help out and she asked me how much would I want/charge for this. Since the last time I babysat regularly was about 15 years ago, I have no idea what to tell her!

I don't want to gouge either one of us and I was wondering what a fair rate would be?

We're in a far Northern suburb of Chicago and the drive to her home is about 20 miles one way. I would be at her house from late afternoon on Saturday to late morning on Sunday.

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

I would say $75 for both. My neighbor charges people $75 to watch one child overnight on New Year's eve. So $75-100 sounds reasonable to me especially since both kids are young.

I agree with Liz but make sure she can afford to pay this rate. Sometimes a night away with out the children is the nicest thing you can do for a friend especially when they trust you.

I am 12 years old and I am trying to get a job as a babysitter. Most parents I think would probably want someone to be a bit older than me to babysit. What can I do to show to parents that I am capable of taking care of their child?
