    Molded rafters---how to replace?
I have an old house with a new roof. It turns out, the end rafters are moldy. I have been ripped out the fascia and soffit on the gable side because they were somewhat moldy and water-damaged. How do I remove the old end rafters and replace them with new ones without having the roof sag? Obviously, I can't just nail a new rafter to the old--I need to get rid of the mold. Thanks.

Do you mean mold or rot? Mold will go away as soon as moisture goes away.

I'm with Harold on this as usual. If its mold just dry it and kill it. If its rot you can sister new rafters along side the old ones without changing the roof structure.

Thanks, all. That is what my trusty hardware guy said as well. I think it has just been moist because all the board aren't up, and that worried me.
