    Unable to pay student loans.
My husband has some outrageous student loans amounting up to about $275,000.00. Some federal & some private, both through Sallie Mae. Right now we are having a hard time making the payments. I know he HAS to pay on the federal loans...but does anyone know if there is anything we can do to stop the private loans until we get back on track? He went to chiropractic school but has been unable to pass his boards. Therefore we don't have that money he was suppose to be making to pay them back, as they are all coming due now. We tried to submit for forbearance due to the economy, but since his Dad is a co-signer on the loans, they did not approve. We have a 11 month old son and times are tough. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US OUT AND POINT US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? Thanks so much!:(

Are the private loans backed though the government ? Sounds like time to do two things,
    Talk to the atttorney,
And get him to pass the boards.

Does he need to go back for additional classes to beef up on something what is causing him to not pass

No, one of his loans is federal, but the rest are just private loans he consolidated through the same company.

I am not sure why he isn't passing. He has ADD and is medicated, but he has been out of school for almost 3 years now. He takes the test every 6 months, but fails. He has taken review courses, but the material on the test changes each year. He can't keep up. Not to mention he works like 65+ hours a week at work and has no time to study. He has to work to make money. I also work full time 50+ hours a week and when we aren't at work, we are taking care of our 11 month old.

So what can an attorney do? I don't think we can afford to get an attorney right now. They get expensive quick. I wasn't sure if there was something we could submit to ask for a hold on payments..?

    Thanks.

I hate to ask you this but if you happen to find out any information on how to get private student loans on track please forward that information to me. I am in a very similar situation. My husband and I owe a little more than you but what we owe at Sallie Mae is close to the same. Due to my husband joining the US air force and us having to move to England, we are in real need. Us being here has caused troubles for me to find employement. From all these student loans I have been dealing with depression for years now, yet there seems to be no relief. Thank you for any information you can pass to me.
