    an airplane traveling v=655 km/h in a direction 38.5 degrees west of north, I can't draw it because there is no tool.

    a) FInd the components of the velocity vector in the northerly and westerly diretions.
    __________km/h (north)
    __________km/h (west)

    b) how far north and how far west has the blane traveled after 5 hours?

    __________km/h (north)

    Also for you : you have to do your homework yourself !
    At least if you want to pass the subject...

    I'll tell you HOW to do that !

    Draw a X and a Y figure (at 90 degrees).

    Now take the first quadrant and draw a line from the X/Y center at an angle of 38,5 degrees with the horizontal line

    Length of the line is 65,5 mm. representing 655 km. (travel length in the first hour)
    At the end of that length of 65,5 mm line draw horz. And vert. lines to X and Y lines.
    You have now 2 triangles with the length of the hypothenusa known, and two triangles with two angles known (1 x 90 degrees, 1 x 38,5 degrees) , so you can calculate the lengths of the X and Y lines (sine and co-sine)

    ===

    For the reply to b : multiply both lengths of question "a" with 5 (for 5 hours)

    Let me know what you got as answer !

    :)

I really don't understand this problem: Two planets X and Y travel counterclockwise in circular orbits about a star. The radii of their orbits is in the ratio 3:2. At some time, they are aligned, making a straight line with the star. Five years later, planet X has rotated through 89.0...
