    What counts as earned income?
    Does unemployment insurance or SS disability benefits count as earned income?

    No, it is NOT earned income.

    It CAN be, however, taxable income. It depends on how much your OTHER income sources are.

    1. You must include in your income all unemployment compensation you receive. It is not subject to FICA taxes.
    2. Part of your SS benefits may be taxable if 1/2 of the benefits plus your other income exceed the base amount.
