Well pump off but still leaking in basement
The well pump is off but there is still a slow leak dripping from the lowest fixture when all water shut off and from the bottom of an empty water heater. How can this be? We are closing up cabin for the season and always drain the water heater and shut off the water. When we emptied the water heater this time there is still water dripping from it from I guess a leaky valve into water heater. However, how can it still be doing this when the well pump is shut off?

    Please help---need advice.

    Hey Debbie,
Even though the pump is shut down and the water drained down there's always water left in the pipes. Did you blow out the hot and cold lines with a compressor or air bottle? Your cabin will not be "winterized" until all the water is forced out of the pipes and water heater, plus all the traps and toilet bowl, (You did drain and sponge out the toilet tank didn't you?)should be filled with cooking oil or antifreeze. Good luck,Tom
