Would you go as Jesus instructe?
Today's Gospel (Lk 10:1-12): The Lord appointed seventy-two other disciples and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place, where he himself was to go. And He said to them, «The harvest is rich, but the workers are few. So you must ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers to his harvest. Courage! I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Set off without purse or bag or sandals; and do not stop at the homes of those you know.
»Whatever house you enter, first bless them saying: 'Peace to this house'. If a friend of peace lives there, the peace shall rest upon that person. But if not, the blessing will return to you. Stay in that house eating and drinking at their table, for the worker deserves to be paid. Do not move from house to house.
»When they welcome you in any town, eat what they offer you. Heal the sick who are there and say to them: 'The kingdom of God has drawn near to you'. But in any town where you are not welcome, go to the marketplace and proclaim: 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off and leave with you. But know and be sure that the kingdom of God had come to you'. I tell you that on the Judgment Day it will be better for Sodom than for this town».
Could you, would you go without purse, bag, or shoes into strange towns spreading the good news and helping heal the folks there from town to town?
:)Peace and kindness.:)

Fred thanks be to God for all the posts, we are getting quite a Bible based education here reading all your homilies.
At my last job I tried to spead the Good News as much as I was able with my bosses and coworkers.
Once a severe thunderstorm, possibly a tornado was approaching our building. People actually wanted to stand next to me and hide behind me like children as it approached, possibly thinking if God spared anyone it might be me (a hiding place from the windstorm)
Also I overheard my supervisor telling people that after I came there, people started talking to one another instead of staying in their own little cliques at work(love each other as God has loved you)
People also started singing that country song Beer for my Horses with the words Beer for my Sheep
Wherever we find ourselves in life we should try to witness, spread the word, show ourselves to be workmen with nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of the truth rightly

We live in different times, with different customs and culture than in the MiddleEast two thousand years ago.
What caught my eye was the number 72... perhaps it had magic properties in Judaism, and then Christianity, as does it in Islam and the 72 virgins as a reward when a man dies.
Incidentally, this quote shows that the Kingdom of God was spread by men, that the Kingdom was made up of people who were changed by Jesus' teachings and became more aware spiritually.

Me - honestly, I don't think so. I would like the courage to :(
I work in a hospital. Science and technology can only go so far. I find that sharing your faith with the sick and suffering helps them. They reaffirm it or if they don't believe or take it seriously they stay silent. They have lost nothing from hearing about God's forgiveness and grace. :)

The rule of 72 Choux is when you divide 72 by the interest rate to get the number of years it takes to double your money at that interest rate. For example 72/8 = 9 meaning if you invest $100 at 8% interest for 9 years you walk away with $200. Which made 72 a very important number in those times so you put that number into the stories you make up so people will remember it.

Yeah, I used that math thing when I was a stock broker. :)
The thing is that Islam uses the number 72, and they don't allow charging interest.
Anyone else? :D

I used the number 72 a lot myself,a few years back, between 1971 and 1973, but how does this answer Fred's question?

I agree with inthebox. Honestly, I think that it would be very difficult. But fortunately, we have the net! So, in a way, we're like the disciples spreading the Word of God!!
Anyway, we are trying our best.
Blessings

I also spread the good news of atheism to my learned friends. Those that think freely, feel a strong sense of personal responsibility are the ones we need.

Unknown008,
Yes the internet is a great way to spread the good news.
Some with open minds listen and are saved, others suffer the lose of hope and salvation.
That's good for some and sad for others,
I still think that there is no such thing as a true atheist.

No Fred, I would not. I do not see any reason to do so. I prefer to base my life and my decisions on ratio and reality.

I second your post acura. Indeed, it is sad, but hopefully, there will be some lost souls visiting once in a while the threads and be converted.

I suggest you each take a god free day. Just to try it out. Remember this isn't an anger at god day this is a dismissal of a superstition god free day. A day where instead of praying for something to happen you go out and accomplish it yourself. A day where you spend time with your family not because some god says you have to but because you want to. A day when you do the right thing not because you burn in hell if you don't but because it's the right thing to do and it makes you feel better. You should all try it see how much better your life goes even on just that one day.

If you can't start with a god free day. Start with small superstitions and work your way up. For example when a black cat crosses your path don't worry about be nice to the kitty instead. If you spill some salt don't worry about throwing it over your shoulder just clean it up. Step on sidewalk cracks without fear of breaking your mothers back. Try these simple ones and work your way up to the big one if you need to.
